Pressure-treated timber floors

Treated timber resists rot far better than untreated, but it is not immune, and treatment does not survive being cut or drilled. Lift the mats, check the plank ends and the bearer contact points, and probe anything that sounds hollow. A float floor is one component where you check rather than assume.

Working on a smaller property

A 1.83 m body turns through gates that stop a full-width float, backs into a narrow shed, and does not need a truck to pull it. If most of your towing is a few kilometres between paddocks, agistment and the local pony club, that manoeuvrability is worth more than a metre of extra box length.
