40ft Tilt Bed Container Trailer – Model V1

The absence of a floor is deliberate. This 40 ft tilt bed is built as a frame with angle-iron skid plate runners, which is what you want when the load is a shipping container, a length of steel or a machine that sits on its own tracks. Less tare, nothing to rot, and nothing to replace after a decade of chain damage.

The bed tips on a 12 V twin-cylinder hydraulic pump and tapers at the rear with a 610 mm tail plate cut with keyholes, so the load transitions cleanly onto the deck rather than catching.

Chassis and rigging

• 2 x 10,000 lb axles with electric brakes, on dual wheels
• 305 mm x 14 lb I-beam main rail, frame and neck 76 x 127 x 9.5 mm
• 30,000 lb adjustable coupler, two 12,000 lb jacks
• Eight 102 mm winches along the sides, plus a winch plate
• Torque tube, emergency breakaway kit with built-in charger
• 235/80/16 (E) 10-ply tyres on silver mod wheels
• LED lights, reflective tape, sealed wiring harness, enamel finish

Loading containers with a tilt bed

Tilt beds are one of the few practical ways to place a container without a crane or a side loader. The trailer tips, the box is winched or slid off, and the trailer drives out from under it. Ground conditions matter enormously here – a soft or sloped set-down turns a controlled slide into an uncontrolled one.
