Around 76 m³ in one box, at 9ft 6in external height — the container almost every Australian conversion project starts with, and the one plant hire yards buy for machinery.
The 40ft high cube is the most storage you can buy in a single container: twelve metres long and 2.9 metres tall externally, which is roughly 76 cubic metres of secure, dry, lockable space. Plant hire firms buy them for machinery, builders for materials, and a large proportion end up as the raw material for workshops, sheds and container home builds because the extra ceiling height survives being lined and insulated.
These are one-trip units built in China and used once to carry cargo into Australia, CSC plated to 30 tonnes gross.

Line and insulate a standard container and you lose most of your headroom. Start with a high cube and a finished ceiling still leaves a room you can stand up in comfortably. That single fact is why almost every container conversion in Australia begins with a 40ft high cube rather than a standard-height unit.
A 40ft high cube needs a long straight approach, firm ground the full length, and vertical clearance the whole way in. It also needs level bearers under all four corner castings — twist a twelve-metre container and the doors stop closing. That is the most common cause of a container being reported faulty when it is not.
Used 40ft high cubes cost considerably less if paint condition does not matter. See the high cube range, the used containers, and current market rates in our price guide.
