Exterior tie rings

Two tie points per stall on the outside of the float means you can tie both horses safely while you set up, muck out or wait for a class. It sounds trivial until you are at a one-day event holding two lead ropes and a rug.

A matching spare

A spare that matches the wheels actually fitted, rather than a mismatched steel rim thrown in the tack room, means the float handles the same after a puncture as before. Check the age of the spare, not just its tread — trailer tyres perish long before they wear out.
