Mangers on a straight-load float

On a straight load, a manger occupies the space in front of the horse and gives you a place to put feed that is not the floor. It also means the horse cannot get its head down under the chest bar, which some travellers will otherwise attempt. If you feed on the road, it is the layout you want.

A newer float, and what that buys

A 2018 build means modern LED lighting circuits, better sealing and a floor with plenty of life left. It does not mean maintenance-free — bearings, brake magnets and coupling wear are functions of use, not age. Ask what has been serviced and when.
