A galvanneal-bodied CM three-horse angle load — steel that resists corrosion far better than painted mild steel — in a narrow 1.83 m body with a 5.18 m box. Check the load figures carefully.
Galvanneal is the interesting word in this specification. It is steel that has been galvanised and then annealed, giving a surface that takes paint far better than plain galvanising and resists corrosion far better than plain steel. On a 1.83 m wide three horse float that will live outside, it is a sensible choice.
A 5.18 m box on 1,590 kg axles, at approximately 1,590 kg unladen.
Plain steel floats rust from any paint chip. Galvanneal has a zinc-iron alloy layer bonded into the surface, so a scratch does not become a rust site the way it does on painted mild steel. It is not aluminium, and it still needs washing and inspection, but it is a meaningful step up in longevity for a steel-bodied float.
The manufacturer’s gross rating of 3,180 kg against a tare of approximately 1,590 kg leaves roughly 1,590 kg for horses and gear. Three horses can easily exceed that. This is exactly the kind of figure that matters, and exactly the kind of figure that an Australian compliance assessment would scrutinise — do not assume you can load three full-size horses into it.
