A used 40ft flat rack — 11.65 m of open timber-decked platform, crane-loaded and lashed down. Long second life in Australia as a farm crossing, work platform or machinery skid.
Twelve metres of open steel deck with an end frame at each end. A 40ft flat rack is what carries the loads that defeat every other container: long fabricated steel, mining plant, boat hulls, transformers, packaged machinery. Nothing is in the way because there is nothing there — no walls, no roof, just deck and lashing points.
End frames come fixed or collapsible depending on the unit, and collapsible frames fold down so empty racks stack for the return leg.

Loads go on and come off by crane. Book the lift alongside the container delivery and confirm the crane can stand where it needs to — that is the constraint far more often than the rack itself. Have the lashing arrangement worked out before the load arrives.
Each rack is individually plated for shipping and for stacking when loaded. Work from that document rather than a general figure, particularly if the rack will be stacked in a stow.
Flat racks have a long second life in Australia as farm crossings, work platforms, machinery skids and bridge decks — the deck is engineered for concentrated loads in a way that ordinary steel is not. See the used container range and containers for export.
