Aluminium floors

An extruded aluminium floor removes the single biggest failure point on an older float — rotten timber under the mats. It still needs checking, because aluminium can corrode where urine sits against a steel fastener, but you are far less likely to find a soft spot. Lift the mats and look before you buy any float, regardless of what the floor is made of.

A sensible first float

Short, light, simple and with an escape door. For someone moving one or two horses to lessons, to the vet and to the occasional local show, this is enough float. If you are hauling further or more often, look at the longer units in our two horse float category or step up to a three horse float.
